VMU

Vytautas Magnus University, established in 1922, closed in 1950 and reestablished in 1989, is a modern university in Lithuania, having liberal studies policy, seeking and establishing successful international relations with other universities all over the world. It is an open university where traditions and innovations successfully meet and complement each other. As of 2008, VMU had 10 faculties: Arts, Catholic Theology, Economics and Management, Humanities, Informatics, Law, Political Science and Diplomacy, Natural Sciences, Social Welfare and Social Sciences. Together they offer more than 70 bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes as well as 16 doctoral programmes. The VMU academic community now consists of more than 9,000 students taught by 550 scholars who since the reestablishment of the university have brought forth 16,000 alumni.

Vytautas Magnus University is open for academic community from all over the world. Each year over 100 of students and a number of teachers from different International universities come to VMU. The University has almost 100 LLP/ Erasmus program and over 45 bilateral cooperation partners all over Europe and the world. The University offers 17 full-time graduate programs in English and 2 programs in German and Russian. Over 350 semester-long courses in all the faculties and schools are offered in English for students from foreign countries, also for exchange and visiting students.

The University also offers 22 foreign languages (Lithuanian, Latvian, Japanese, Hindi, Turkish, Arab, Ancient Greek, Norwegian, etc.) courses.

DEPARTMENT OF REGIONAL STUDIES 

Department Regional Studies is working on academic education, research, teaching culture and language, teacher training. The Department organizes Lithuanian language and Culture courses for foreigners and intensive Lithuanian language courses for Erasmus students. The Department has acquired considerable expertise in teaching Lithuanian as a foreign language, in developing teaching and culture promotional materials, and in organizing local and international methodological seminars and conferences. The Department offers Master study programmes of Baltic Region Studies and East Asia Region Studies.

Department of Regional Studies has experience in cooperation at local, regional, national and trans-national levels. The Department participates in a number of European and non-European projects, such as Socrates/ Erasmus, Lingua 2, Nordplus, Open Society Foundation East-East project, Baltic Studies Network, etc.
